Subject: permafrost that wasn't

The attempt to obtain samples of the Spanish Flu virus from corpses
buried in Longyearbyen, Norway is looking like a bust. The graves were too
shallow to keep the bodies frozen year round and only bones have been
found, according to a recent report in the Globe and Mail newspaper.
The temperatures in Longyearbyen are quite high by Canadian standards,
and place this site only in the discontinuous permafrost zone.
