X-Message-Number: 10411 Date: Fri, 11 Sep 1998 12:04:27 -0700 From: David Brandt-Erichsen <> Subject: House vote on anti-PAS bill Tuesday Majority leader Armey announced Friday morning that the House of Representatives will take up H.R. 4006, the Lethal Drug Abuse Prevention Act of 1998, on Tuesday next. (There is a possibility that votes will be delayed until the next day because of primary elections on Tuesday.) The act would prohibit the dispensing or distribution of a controlled substance for the purpose of causing, or assisting in causing, the suicide or euthanasia of any individual and would thereby nullify the Oregon referendum. Under H.R. 4006 the DEA will be able to obtain the records of physician assisted suicide submitted to the State of Oregon for revocation of physicians' licenses to prescribe narcotics. The text of the bill and the Judiciary Committee report can be found at the Library of Congress ("loc") URL http://thomas.loc.gov/home/c105query.html (which will be unavailable this afternoon due to publication of the Independent Counsel documents). -------------------------------------------------------------------------- This message sent by Arizonans for Death with Dignity David Brandt-Erichsen, AzDD Website Manager <> or <> http://www.azstarnet.com/~davidbe/hemlock or http://www.hemlock.org/hemlock/arizona Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=10411
