[Very sound response by Ben snipped.]

Ben,

Thanks for taking the time to correct the impression Doug
may have given with his post. When I've taken the time to
correct Doug's mistakes, I've tried to reach the numerous
fora in which he sends copies of his posts. You may not wish
to do so, of course, but if you do, note that he also posts
copies to , ,
Sci.life-extension, Misc.health.alternative,
Alt.support.diet, and often other newsgroups. He may post
elsewhere, too. (In the case of this post, I and others
posted responses on Usenet, so that's taken care of.)

One small point:

I think this is just a simple mistake, and that you mean
"hundreds of studies" on many species. Yes? The number of
species on which CR has been attempted is probably 10-20
(though maybe you're counting different strains of rodents
as different species -- even then I don't think the number
would be hundreds).

Anyway, thanks for the good response.

If someone out there actually knows Doug personally, s/he
might consider:

1) Asking Doug to mention in his posts where else they're
being posted, so that people who want to respond can reach
the same audience Doug does.

2) Encourage him to have someone review his posts before he
sends them out to such a wide audience.

It's wonderful that the life-extension community has someone
like Doug, who's willing to put so much energy into
distributing Medline abstracts, occasionally reading and
commenting on articles, etc. It would be good if that energy
could be used in a more careful manner. I'd hate to see
people start stuffing themselves because they think it's not
bad for them.

Brian.
