X-Message-Number: 10586 Date: Tue, 13 Oct 1998 08:15:50 -0800 From: Jim Yount - Chief Operating Officer <> Subject: The First Cryonicist We don't know who "The First Immortal" may be. There is no doubt who "The First Cryonicist" was. Once upon a time there were no cryonicists. Then a man named Robert Ettinger became the first one. He invited others to join him when he wrote a book called "The Prospect of Immortality." In the daily activity of discussions on cryonics we sometimes lose site of the fact that the cryonics movement has a founder, and that he is still with us. We don't really have any cryonics holidays. Alcor has celebrated "Bedford Day" in honor of the first human suspended. Bedford Day is appropriate, but there is little doubt that a future cryonics holiday will be Robert Ettinger's birthday. Fortunately Robert survived his recent heart attack and can celebrate his own birthday along with us. Someday it will be only other cryonicists who toast his future prospects. Still, we are the only movement, I know of, where our founder may return (after a brief cold hiatus) to celebrate "Founder's Day" along with us! By the way, Robert, I don't actually know the day of your birth. Let us know, so we can pencil it in on the calendar, and have time to chill down the champagne! =+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+ American Cryonics Society (650)254-2001 FAX (650)967-4444 P.O.
