X-Message-Number: 10815 From: "Thomas Nord" <> Subject: Fading out on guncontrol. CO2 are more important. Date: Fri, 20 Nov 1998 04:31:29 +0100 Friends, and if there are others; Are there non-Cryonicists jumping in here against guncontrol? I dont wish that due to its millions potential. Thomas D: I am very skeptic as the saint, here called Thomas the doubter. Dont have the time to comment every WebPage. If driving wrong at night I may be in trouble and danger as you wrote and I knew, thats quite a difference from over here even though we have some bad areas with many immigrants, but gunfree and not very dangerous. Keith: "American firearm's history, law and culture. I will say again, when you have finally read More Guns, Less....."; Who can avoid that with so much from US on TV most of the time, also learned in school and at home as I study a lot here, have a radiolink since years direct from NPR/PRI BBC and NDR (German), almost puke hearing the name Monica Lewinsky that much, also watch court-TV from US, the real thing, now mostly Judy's court to learn whats going on and be prepared for. Seldom have time for fictionmovies if its not a good comedy. American laws are a problem since there are no lawbook, as we have here and in Germany as have 2 etc. I've the Swedish one at armslength and use it often. We also have a bit of the US system where one has to find out in several sources whats right. I have asked 2 cryonicists in 2 Cryo.orgs. most of us know living in the same area, one never had a gun and saw no reason to have one, the other had one most of the time but dont use it. My brother living in my area is a marksman with several guns and will use them for protection, are only worried of ledpoisoning from the bullets particles/dust. I consider to get a rifle if I get nervous again of some people. But as in US one must consider that only half of the shootings are criminal, the rest are accidental or suicides. US are indeed a special case as a meltingpot. Most gunviolence here are immigrants killing each other, also shooting. What sources are there to trust? The White house, UN, Senate, Congress? Before Internet this year, I've been very aware of the gunissue many years from many others sources, among them some Swedish ones. Over here we have governmental open sources as get hell if they aren't neutral working for us. Have gone through Lott, I do not have the time or desire to start any anti Mustard Lott-ery, or find out whos right for the moment in detail, just like to compare it with over here and the rest of the world. Changing it may need another social rule in US. Just over the border Canada has it and less guns. "Using guns against a coercive government", is that Washington or right down all the way? After to many late nights and a headache as a result, I like to drop guncontrol for the moment as timeconsumer slowly, and jump over to CO2, but not in here as much. For the moment a far larger problem than guns since we cant stop cardriving in the short run awaiting better engines. What can be done are stop burning oil coal and propanegas for heating and electricity. Ban and control are not good, better to be for a more gunfree world with nuclearpower till we get the alternatives as are coming. And it is cryonicsrelated still for newcomers, since we have to migrate if it goes bad with CO2 as its said with the greenhouse-effect. That is a tuff case here and in Germany with fundamental Greens who just like to get rid of nuclearpower no matter what, very hard to turn around their mind of ancient days when we didnt know of the CO2danger. Critical Commentary on a Paper by Lott and Mustard http://www.health.su.oz.au/cgc/teret.htm "The More Guns You Have, The Safer You Are"? For and against Lott http://www.health.su.oz.au/cgc/lmintro.htm Statistics can lie either way depending on its use, this doesn't seem related to per capita, bad anyway with that in mind: http://www.vpc.org/fact_sht/secondfs.htm http://www.vpc.org/pgtopic.htm California http://www.gunlaws.org/ http://www.insync.net/~tagvhou/poll.htm Texans Against Gun Violence http://www.insync.net/~tagvhou/ Keep holding to guns or not and take care 4 Life as in latin Pro vivo. Pretty good huh? At 4 AM got to sleep. Sincerely Thomas Nord (not Norton, Thomas) Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=10815
