X-Message-Number: 10858 From: Date: Tue, 1 Dec 1998 10:10:40 EST Subject: life expectancy, money Thomas Donaldson's Cryonet #10855 (on demonstrating increased life span vs. "merely" increased mean life for sampled animals) inspires a comment: Even though we aim for actual increases in the maximum, let's not overlook the importance of "merely" moving the average closer to the existing maximum. Personally, I would love any degree of assurance that I could improve my expectancy from around 85 to around 100, and Mae's from around 88 to around 103. Perhaps Thomas could give us his evaluation of the best regimens and supplements for increasing expectancy, whether or not an increase in the maximum is involved. Oro's Cryonet #10855 (on "money" in the future) also inspires a comment: The possibility that, in the future, the very concept of "money" may change, as well as its mechanics, lends additional force, it seems to me, to the notion that your cryonics organization is the best repository for your extra funds, as opposed to a personal trust. After all, no trustees of a conventional trust are likely to have the vision or flexibility to meet such future challenges. The directors of the cryonics organizations, on the other hand, are likely to have the best collective judgment as to your overall best interest, taking into account the full sweep of future developments in technology and the economy.
