Hi Bruce,
Thanks for writing to me. It's great to hear from you, and needless to say
I'm flattered by the attention. My real job is as a rare coin dealer --
novel-writing is just a sideline -- and recently, because of new Internet
business and the Y2K preparedness craze, my coin business has been taking
all of my time. So please forgive this short response. Fact is, novelists
are seldom in the loop in movie-making. I have long ago been paid and all of
Hallmark's contractual obligations to me are satisfied until they go to what
is called "principal photography." I know they also paid a small fortune
for a script by Rospo Pallenberg, and then rejected it. Meanwhile, they have
not asked for any input from me, and I've heard nothing from Hallmark, other
than the producer supposedly assuring my agent several months ago that he
"still loves the concept" and is "definitely going to make TFI." As to
whether he really will, and if so, when it will be aired, your guess is as
good as mine. I really appreciate everyone's comments though.
By the way, Ballantine's TFI paperback has been available since December,
and if anyone hasn't read it in paperback, it is a significantly different
version from the hard cover.
Best wishes and long life,
Jim Halperin
