Subject: the importance of Mike Darwin's message

About Mike Darwin's posting:

I was unable to attend the 21st Century Seminars but did buy the tapes and
looked and listened to Mike Darwin's resuscitation talk.

I will be blunt here. Any cryonics society which does not look carefully
into applying the therapy against nitric acid which Mike Darwin discusses
in his posting does not deserve to call itself a cryonics society. This
is a message not only to other societies than Alcor, but to the current
leaders of Alcor too: Fred and Linda Chamberlain.

Yes, our future may bring therapies for patients damaged far more than
Mike seems to think possible. But simply to ignore possibilities to
limit that damage seems to me not only obtuse but morally wrong. Yes, such
possibilities MAY increase the cost of suspension; but patients deserve
the right to be told both of the treatment, and its cost... and if they
choose that treatment and can afford it, they deserve to have it applied.

As for the Australian society to which I belong, I will send this message
also directly to the other members who have modems and access to Cryonet.

Finally, I will add this: Mike Darwin seems to have offended many, in one
way or another. Some have found him impossible to deal with. However just
because someone is otherwise offensive is no good reason at all to
ignore what he may say when he says something which is a matter of
verifiable fact. Even if you don't like someone, and find them offensive,
if they tell you that your car engine is likely to blow up soon you
should at least listen and consider what they have to say.

Best and long long life to all,

				Thomas Donaldson
