X-Message-Number: 12061 From: Date: Sun, 4 Jul 1999 12:37:23 EDT Subject: LN2 generation Jeff Davis has questions and suggestions concerning the possibility of cryonics organizations generating their own liquid nitrogen, and perhaps their own energy. This has always been a long-term goal, but not yet anywhere near our means, even if all the organizations could combine. Besides capital costs, the main costs in generating liquid nitrogen are for electrical energy and water (for cooling). These costs, on the scale of our present operations, far exceed the cost of buying nitrogen from commercial suppliers, even disregarding operation and maintenance. Generating our own energy is also pretty much out of the question currently, although I have always hoped eventually to have something like a thermopile system which, once installed, would have near-zero operating and maintenance cost. However, if Mr. Davis should learn of someone who wants to sell a liquid nitrogen generating system at sacrifice prices, that just possibly might be of interest, as a backup system.
