A great idea.  There will probably be some degree of resistance from
pathologists who generally prefer to routinely section and perform
histological analysis of organs surgically removed from patients.  (There
may also be some justification in further supporting the need for the
transplant).  However, it might be worth approaching their objections from
the perspective of better preservation methods over formalin.  They already
tend to "preserve" the organs for a few years in formalin and the slides
almost indefinitely.  Cryo-preservation would simply be a more "dedicated"
form of storage.
