X-Message-Number: 12269 Date: Mon, 16 Aug 1999 15:29:18 -0700 (PDT) From: Doug Skrecky <> Subject: fly experiment updates soon After a long hiatus my fly longevity experiments have been restarted. I have also decided to investigate cryoprotectant toxicity as well. Feeding high doses of glycerol to flies reduces their life span noticibly but if the results of a preliminary experiment are further born out I feel I may have found an effective blocker for the metabolic toxicity of glycerol. The relevance of metabolic toxicity to high molar cryoprotectant toxicity to cryobiology, where tissues typically are under metabolic arrest is debatible. However the only sure way to determine this is to do a cryobiology experiment using such a blocker. My fly experiments can be used to find such a blocker inexpensively. Indeed they may already have succeeded. More on this later. Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=12269
