X-Message-Number: 1234 Subject: CRYONICS Unbundling From: (Edgar W. Swank) Date: Sun, 27 Sep 92 05:28:59 PDT In Cryomsg 1225, Perry Metzger remarked: "Indeed, I would further argue that cryonics in the long run should move to unbundle all services. I think that in the long run we would be best served by competitive suspension, storage, and trust companies. One would go to a cryonics broker who for a small fee would help one select an insurance company to pay for ones suspension (say, Northwest Mutual), a trust company to hold and manage one's money post-suspension and otherwise defend one's rights while on ice..." This is very nearly what ACS offers its members currently! ACS is very much like the cryonics broker envisioned by Perry. ACS members have a choice of (cheap) perfusion by CI (Michigan) or state of the art perfusion by Trans-Time. ACS is currently negotiating with Mike Darwin (formerly of Alcor) as a provider and trainer for transport and perfusion, which would be a third choice. Members have a choice of whole-body storage in either Trans-Time or CI. Trans-Time offers neuro storage. Also available is a vendor who provides arctic burial. While trust funds are generally managed directly by ACS, this is not a hard and fast rule. A few members already have independently managed trust funds. -- (Edgar W.
