Subject: to ED: the purpose of life is to live

Hi Ed (whoever you are):

At their core you make some good comments. To say that we want pleasure
means very little, since pleasure is what we get when we get what we
want, and no other good definition exists. To say that we want to live
and continue to live because of the drives that we already have means
a lot more. People have put up with a very great deal in order to
continue living, often in situations that almost no one would describe as
pleasurable. (Yes, some people LIKE living in severe pain and all the
rest, but few cryonicists fit that description. They want to live because
their desire for life is fundamental to their selfhood).

And because we extend our desire for life farther than most, and do not
decide that at some future time we'll die quietly, cryonicists may stand
out. But they are merely showing their very basic feelings.

I have no idea what I will be doing in 1000 years if I live that long.
I do know that I will have done and seen many things, both good and bad,
and that is what happens when we live. That is why I chose cryonics,
and at its root that is why I believe every cryonicist has chosen
cryonics.

			Best and long long life,
