Subject: Joseph1 had a good idea about meetings

Hi everyone!

Joseph1, whoever he is, has made a point that deserves attention. When I
attended the Silicon Valley cryonics group there WAS a combination of
business meeting with showing of various tapes of TV programs, etc
which talked about cryonics in a favorable way... and sometimes in an
unfavorable way.

The idea of separating business meetings completely from "getting to know
about cryonics" meetings looks to me like a very good one. Moreover, just
showing tapes never seemed to me to be all that good for recruiting,
though possibly no one in the group felt that they could actually say
very much about cryonics that would inform those who were ignorant of
some or much of it. It might have had more influence to show slides
and tapes of actual cryonic suspensions, discuss the tons of paperwork
involved, etc etc.

I ceased to attend myself not out of any disagreement but because it
became clear that I could not drive a car to the meetings, and their
times and places tended to be those to which public transport (other
than very expensive cabs) failed to exist. And I won't claim that I
had such thoughts as those above when I did attend. Still, it looks
like a very good idea.

Best and long long life to all,

				Thomas Donaldson
