I think Charles Platt hit the nail on the head  about too many great 
expectations to be had

with nanotech. Fantasy abounds, from complete cell genesis to sex-changes at the
turn of a

dime. More mundane applications should be very useful, however, such as the 
example given by

Platt of nano virus killers and the like.  I would also anticipate later 
nanotech that could

enter cells and correct DNA problems due to aging and damage, and clean out cell
debris, these

capabilities would make us essentially ageless as we wait for more improvements 
in nano.   The

book TRAVELS TO THE NANOWORLD is a good book to read, it points out the use of 
biological

components in nanotech,  and a recent posting here about the work with E-Coli 
bacteria is very
interesting.
