X-Message-Number: 12745 From: "John de Rivaz" <> References: <> Subject: Re: Funding Options Date: Mon, 8 Nov 1999 11:17:32 -0000 Douglas Skrecky made some comments on funding options based on current expert thinking on long term investment. Whereas I am sure his comments are an accurate reflection on what is a reasonable consensus of opinion of these professionals, they don't take into consideration the special situation of cryonicists. This is that without a prolonged period of technological advance, there will be no revivals to spend the money on. Therefore the only universe cryonicists can observe is one where long term technology growth is present. Any other universe, such as those that may be observed by *successive generations of* pension fund and life insurance managers, may well require the type of procedures that Mr Skrecky found in the literature and commented upon. If the technology growth universe does not exist, neither will we. It is pertinent to discuss whether long term technology growth can occur without stock market investments benefiting and when ideas suggest themselves I will come back to this topic. At the moment the idea of technology growth without investment gains being available seems an unlikely even absurd possibility. It is important to realise that I am talking long term here - if the technology index is driven down for a few months because of "Microsoft vs. the Lawyers" that is completely irrelevant. No doubt plenty of commentators will say that such an event heralds the end of the American Dream, the Dollar will collapse, we will go back to the middle ages, and so on. Such comments sell articles rather than reflect reality. -- Sincerely, John de Rivaz my homepage links to Longevity Report, Fractal Report, my singles club for people in Cornwall, music, Inventors' report, an autobio and various other projects: http://geocities.yahoo.com/longevityrpt Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=12745
