X-Message-Number: 12784 From: "George Smith" <> References: <> Subject: A confession regarding my reasons for optimism Date: Tue, 16 Nov 1999 17:09:20 -0800 The simple truth of the matter is that I have simply not been honest with all of you. I have been operating with inside information you have been denied through the usual sources. Early on this last summer after reading the pessimistic pronouncements regarding the progress of technology by some posters on the Cryonet I was filled with despair and commited suicide. "What's the use?" I thought as I pulled the trigger. Immediately I discovered (as my memories were post-game scenerio restored) that this world was nothing more than a virtual reality reproduction of late twentieth century Earth. Like many VR game buffs, I regretted immediately having not put together the "clues". How could I have missed the import of "UFOs", precognitive dreams, totally unbelievable behaviors by world leaders and the incredible lack of foresight on the part of scientist researchers on the cutting edge of technology! Obviously this world was a fake! So I decided to make another go of it. After all, I ALMOST beat the game last time. I only got conned into despair and screwed up. The one "cheat code" I took with me this time was to remember everything just long enough to make this "confession" posting to the Cryonet to let you know that: (1) cryonics worked splendidly sooner than hardly anyone expected (including me) and (2) the Extropians were far too conservative regarding the speed of technological breakthroughs. There was something else. But I don't seem to remember it now. Oh, yes. Now I remember.... I'M JUST KIDDING! :-) George Smith www.cryonics.org Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=12784
