Date: Fri, 19 Nov 1999 17:05:27 -0000 I suggest that stockmarkets are a valid discussion subject, for several reasons. 1. The affordability of cryopreservation, even at CI's relatively low cost, is beyond most people who will prioritise having a new car every two years, going on foreign or distant holidays and so on. Even if the prospective cryonicist doesn't prioritise these expenses, his/her partner and family may force him/her to. The fact that cryonics depends on technology to work means that stockmarket growth in technology can reduce the cost of a fully paid suspension to the order of $3,000. If the growth doesn't happen and you can't afford the suspension, then there is probably no point in having it anyway. 2. One of the big fears of many people who flirt with the idea of cryopreservation is that in the future they will be unable to earn a living and won't know anyone. If you have a lot of money this is far less of a problem. Understanding the effects of technology on the stockmarkets in a world where revivals are possible will ensure that every cryonicist has a lot of money when revived. I have produced a little Active-X program that illustrates how you can make a fully paid cryopreservation for yourself for $50 a month for two years using mutual funds. It has several boxes where you can fill in numbers and try different scenarios. I wanted to put it on the web, but although it runs on my own PC happily it will not download from the web server once uploaded. If anyone experienced in ActiveX can spare the time I would be grateful for some help by email to put right where I am going wrong. Please rely to and I can send you an attachment containing the program. This idea does not provide protection for about 20 years, but if this is a problem you can take out a personal accident policy very cheaply or alternatively get more cover by using reducing term insurance. -- Sincerely, John de Rivaz my homepage links to Longevity Report, Fractal Report, my singles club for people in Cornwall, music, Inventors' report, an autobio and various other projects: http://geocities.yahoo.com/longevityrpt ----- Original Message ----- > > In Message #12790 from: , > > Cryonet seems to > > be dominated by discussions on AI, stockmarkets, > > robots, nanotechnlogy and other such.
