Subject: proanthocyanidins protect against solvent damage

Proanthocyanidins have been found to offer a high degree of protection
against solvent damage. EG: Against choloroform with a bilberry extract
(Arzneim-Forsch 26(5): 829-832 1976). Against alcohol induced brain
damage with a grape extract (NeuroReport 10: 93-96 1999) Against alcohol
induced liver damage with a grape extract (J. Nutr. 129: 1814-1819 1999)
The most potent natural sources of proanthocyanidins appear to be
prunes, and blueberries. Prune ingestion is associated with a sharply
lowered risk of Parkinson's disease. (Arch Neurol 45: 1350-1353 1988)
Blueberries largely reverse age associated motor behavioral declines in
Fischer 344 rats. (J Neuroscience 19(18): 8114-8121 Sept 1999)
