Subject: Re: The OMNI article worked!

Greetings to all. This is Rudi Hoffman writing from Daytona, FL.

Regarding the OMNI article, I can trace my signup directly to this article.

The process took about 6 months, and did involve at least 4 or 5 long
distance calls which I was happy to put on ALCOR's 800 number.

Steve Bridge, who has the real inside track on this article and its results
along with Charles Platt, indicates that there were about 30 of us who
actually "signed up" as a result of this article.

One of the main issues burning in my mind as I stay awake at nights thinking
how cryonics can become more viable and mainstreamed is this:

"Many more people would consider this as an option if they realized that that
their suspension is TRULY affordable through the "FINANCIAL LEVERAGE" of life
insurance. "

I am doing my part to help more people realize this, altho it is abundantly
clear that we are reaching a fraction of the number of people who may be
interested in this option.

These are early days still, despite the continuing and heroic efforts of the
"Pioneers."

Let's ENJOY this fact of being pioneers, and continue to do the things that
we can look back on and be proud we have done.

Unfortunately, this precludes making cryonics a "cult/personality/religion
"based marketing scheme.

Writing perhaps more life insurance to fund cryonic suspension than anyone
else in the world currently, I am in a reasonable position to make
observations as to who is REALLY signing up during the last few years.

The folks who follow through instead of just "kicking tires," wasting my
irreplaceable time and my 800 number, have some commonalties:

1. Predominately male
2. Hi tech/ software/ computer oriented
3. Rational in their orientation. Would not be amused by making this a
"faith based religion"
4. Antiauthoritarian...in many cases have a libertarian orientation...
5. Folks in their 40s and 50s are more financially stable, tend to send the
check when they say they will, and are more reliable and easier to deal with
than folks in their 20s and 30s.

(Sorry if I step on any toes, here...these ore generalities, which always
have exceptions. I am tremendously grateful to many young but extremely
reliable cryonics clients.)

I sincerely hope this info. may be of some use in terms of "making cryonics
work".

And once again, my gratitude to the many visionaries who make up this
fascinating and diverse cryonics community.

I sincerely appreciate each of you. We are building an exciting and
boundless future together, and I am glad to be a part of it.

I look forward to seeing many of my friends at the Asilomar conference, and
meeting many new friends. These are relationships that may last an infinite
lifetime!

Warmly,

Rudi Hoffman
