X-Message-Number: 13358 Date: Sat, 4 Mar 2000 07:06:22 -0500 From: Thomas Donaldson <> Subject: CryoNet #13353 - #13357 About the tapes I mentioned: In 1998 Saul and Bill organized a seminar to discuss the scientific work they had supported up to that time. This work involved work on better ways to freeze/vitrify tissue plus better means to revive someone who had gone for more than the maximum 10 minutes at room temperature without heartbeat or breathing. This work was indeed successful, in that it produced several new cryoprotectants better than those that had existed before (better, in particular, than those that Greg Fahy had devised for vitrification ... Greg was one of the workers in this effort). Because I was at that time moving to Australia, I could not attend their seminar, but it was heavily attended. You might look back to statements on cryonet of about that time: April 1998. However I did buy tapes of every talk given in that Seminar. I am more than happy to send them to anyone in Australia, but I also think that if you aren't in Australia you ought to be able to get a loan of them more quickly by other means. This work, plus my following of developments in Cryobiology, has done a lot to convince me that we may well be able to greatly improve our suspension methods within 10 years ---- IF (and its turned unfortunately into a BIG if) we can raise the required money to support this research. So those are the tapes I mentioned. I also discussed this work in an issue of PERIASTRON. One problem with it scientifically (which I understand as a matter of politics, though it has never made me happy) is that they quite deliberately hid the actual composition of their new cryoprotectants. Best and long long life to all, Thomas Donaldson Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=13358
