To Charles Platt:

No, I would never have said any such thing, mainly because
I haven't considered the effects of shark cartilage all that
important to how long we live. Not only that, but PERIASTRON
deals much more with technical developments relevant to suspensions
than it does with possible developments which might prolong our
lives NOW. (That's my book, such as it is).

I HAD noticed that evidence that shark didn't get arterial
disease had been shown not to exist ie. they DID get it, and
spreading that word would probably be helpful on Cryonet... not
as helpful as some things, but more helpful than others.
It is still common, and I surmise common even among cryonicists,
to take the standard view as to causation of deaths: that we die
of heat disease, arterioschlerosis, strokes, cancers, etc etc.
The major cause of deaths is the breakdown caused by aging. In
most people the exact process is a matter of minor detail. (Yes,
some unlucky people are born or otherwise develop conditions
such as heart disease at the age of 25, but they are nowhere
near the majority).

And remedies for all these many conditions are not going to
help us very much at all. We'll merely come down with some
OTHER condition.

Best and long long life to all,

				Thomas Donaldson
