X-Message-Number: 1357 Date: 25 Nov 92 15:59:02 EST From: <> Subject: CRYONICS The following is posted by Courtney Smith: ALCOR SELECTS NEW PRESIDENT/CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER The Board of Directors of the Alcor Life Extension Foundation has elected Steve Bridge as Alcor's new President and CEO, effective 22 January 1992. Mr. Bridge was elected at a special meeting of Alcor's Board on Saturday, 21 November 1992. Current President and CEO Carlos Mondragon has agreed to remain in office until Mr. Bridge assumes his new duties. Mr. Bridge, currently a member of Alcor's Board of Directors, is a well known cryonicist. Most recently, he has been the President of Alcor Indiana. In addition, he was the co-founder, with Mike Darwin, of Cryonics Magazine and the Institute for Advanced Biological Studies, which later merged with Alcor. He will be leaving his present professional position as librarian and administrative assistant for the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library and moving to California to begin working for Alcor. "Carlos Mondragon has helped bring Alcor through many hard times, and I have great respect and appreciation for all of the work he has done," said Mr. Bridge. "I am grateful that his knowledge and advice will still be available to Alcor in his position as a Director." "Since Alcor's primary responsibilities are performing suspensions and caring for our patients, as Alcor President my first priorities will be to assure myself of our technical capabilities and to plan for continued progress in those areas. Financial worries are a constant for any non-profit organization, so I plan to emphasize fund-raising for research, improvements in patient security (including careful planning for a new facility when that becomes possible), increasing the general operating budget, and overall financial stability through the Endowment Fund and other instruments. Since over the past four years Alcor has expanded to be a truly national and even international organization, I will work to increase communication and interaction between Alcor Central and the various Alcor chapters and individual members." "I look forward to joining the Alcor staff of dedicated individuals who have given so much of themselves. Their determination to make cryonics work has kept Alcor advancing even during the great legal and social uncertainties of the past five years," stated Mr. Bridge. "Alcor's committment to 'Life' and to getting its members to the future has never flagged. I ask the members of Alcor to please join with us in putting aside past differences so that we can build an organization that inspires their confidence and pride for all the future to come."
