About 20 years ago when Rap "music" was surfacing on television and one of
my children was attracted to this urban syncopated "in your face" sound, I
addressed the identity issue with a spontaneous effort, here recalled (with
large portions lost to memory at the dire request of all who were present):

"I'm ME!"

lyrics by Rap Smith
(Copyright 1980 for the protection of the human species in general).

" I'm ME!

PROVE that I ain't!

" I'm ME!

PROVE that I ain't!

" I'm ME!

PROVE that I ain't!

" I'm ME!

PROVE that I ain't!"

(etc.)

The "music" is horrid, the lyrics silly, and we'll check out the accuracy of
the statement later.
