X-Message-Number: 1461 Subject: CRYONICS: Re: How to not self destruct Date: Thu, 17 Dec 92 14:04:32 EST From: Perry posted a good list of rules for dealing with email. They would have prevented most of the arguments I have heard of happening electronically. Recent experience leads me to propose one addition: 7) If you don't have time to carefully write a message, or your message has been influenced by some other constraint your reader might not know about (like a broken editor, out-of-control line noise, non-disclosure agreements, or lukewarm interest), describe the limiting constraint in your message. Without the nonverbal cues coming from a face-to-face conversation, it will be hard for your reader to distinguish rationality that is bounded by a lack of time (say) from sarcasm, stupidity, or evilness.
