X-Message-Number: 14666 From: Date: Wed, 11 Oct 2000 12:26:29 EDT Subject: The Hedonistic Imperative Lee Corbin has mentioned David Pearce's book, The Hedonistic Imperative, available at http://www.hedweb.com I believe I have reviewed it briefly on Cryonet, but just want again to recommend it to new readers. Pearce--a young British philosopher--has gone in some ways far beyond my vision, or that of anyone else of whom I am aware, including Feodorov, Tipler, and Perry. He thinks it may be feasible in a very short time--a few centuries or millennia--to completely eliminate pain and sorrow, or discomfort of any sort, not only for every human but every organism on earth. I have substantial reservations, but his ideas are well worth reading. The future undoubtedly holds some nasty surprises, possibly fatal ones. But if we survive, it also almost certainly holds many wonders and glories we have not yet even imagined.
