X-Message-Number: 14968 From: Date: Mon, 20 Nov 2000 13:17:23 EST Subject: INC etc For the benefit of newcomers especially, as further clarification of Kitty Antonik's post yesterday and my earlier post today, I might add the following. Hasty readings of various postings, and the Asilomar conference reports, might leave the impression that the Institute for Neural Cryobiology (INC) was the sponsor of the hippocampal slice project, from which came the report of the K/Na test (53% viability), and that this work was cryonics-inspired and cryonics-related. Actually, the project had several sponsors and two nominal lead scientists. (The actual experimental work, and development of techniques previously unachieved, was by Dr. Yuri Pichugin, as mentioned at Asilomar.) At least one of the sponsors, and one or both of the nominal lead scientists, have requested not to be named on Cryonet for fear of sullying their reputations by association with cryonics. The INC had a role in organizing the project, and contributed to its funding. Other entities and individuals contributed the rest of the funding. By agreement among the various parties, even though most of them are nonprofit, 21CM (a for-profit corporation) was reportedly given exclusive contractual rights to all commercial uses of the results.
