Subject: CRYONICS Kent & FDA Correction

A slight correction to my note about Saul and the FDA:

Symbex was put together by Mike Darwin, the then president of
Alcor in 1987. He didn't get much thanks for it later, and I'm
sorry if I contributed to his achievement being shoved down the
old memory hole. Saul Kent was the major financial backer of
Symbex. The second most important backer, by the way, was Dave
Pizer, who now, not entirely coincidentally, is an Alcor Di-
rector. Political power at Alcor derives from demonstration of
commitment. It ain't democratic, but I wouldn't have it any
other way. One difficulty is that people may lose political
power quickly, due to the syndrome of "what have you done for me
lately?" I wish that criticizers had, in general, longer
memories.

And by the way, bravo for G. Smyth's turkey story, which I
think of as sort of "George Orwell meets Dave Pizer." Following
his invitation I've posted it several places under his name on my
own computer net. Perhaps Ralph would consider it for CRYONICS
magazine?

                                     S. Harris
