X-Message-Number: 15113 From: Date: Wed, 13 Dec 2000 20:05:44 EST Subject: unreliable research reports A few days ago I listed some of the reasons for caution in relying on the research reported by others, rather than on our own observations. One of those listed reasons was the possibility of actual fraud; this is rare, but has been known to happen, and I clearly recall one case--known because reported to me personally by a very credible source--involving a well known cryobiologist, that was either fraudulent or bordering on it. I have been asked if that cryobiologist is anyone currently active in cryobiology or cryonics. No. It is someone who remains well known as a source in the literature, but who has not--as far as I know--been active in cryobiology for some years. None of this is very important; I just wanted to make sure no one thought I was making accusations against someone currently active.
