Subject: Swayze, Bozzonetti

Apology to James Swayze for the blunder of misnaming him--and again my
admiration for his gallant struggle not only to survive horrors that most of
us can scarcely imagine, but also to remain productive.

Yvan Bozzonetti writes in part:

> Scientist are used to look at past people, they form the first trans
 >temporal community. Frozen scientists could have the best hope for a new
life
 >and living one could be the best cryonics operators as they would have a
 >culture of using thinking and ingenuity of past researchers. Why not start
 >to aim cryonics service to scientists right now?

I'm not sure what that means. There have been many suggestions in the past
that we "target" this group or that for membership--rich people, celebrities,
Libertarians, and of course scientists. But--so far, at least--"targeting"
just doesn't work. Scientists (and physicians and Libertarians and computer
people, among others) are already over-represented in cryonics (in proportion
to population), but the absolute numbers are so small that there appears to
be no effective way to target them. If anyone has new ideas, we'll be glad to
look at them.
