Hi Louis,

Thanks for posing the question:

> But are you prepared to say that anyone who thinks there is anything
> at all wrong with homosexuality is not a bigot?

There's a great deal of substance in what Mike Darwin wrote, which
needs to be dealt with seriously---i don't think it's enough just to
say `Reproduction is why there is such a thing as sexuality'.
Reproduction is only one of the reasons why evolution came up with
sex. (See the popular accounts by Matt Ridley for example.)

I think you should make a good faith effort to work through what Mike
wrote. And it's his arguments that count, not whether he is a genius,
whether tortured or ignorantly bliss. If he says something that is
wrong, point it out, but i don't think you should just dismiss it as
the `nihilist worldview of biology'. The scientific worldview is
crucial in our attempt to save our lives.

If you carefully study what Mike wrote, and read about evolutionary
biology, and in that context still feel that homosexuality is `wrong',
then of course people should be more careful before using the word
`bigot'. But study and sustained, serious thought are necessary.
(And of course i'm specifically not addressing the feeling that
homosexuality is wrong for religious reasons.)

Finally, let me say that i hope nothing i say causes any contention
that would prevent anybody from signing up with a cryonics
organization. That in particular includes you, Louis, and i hope you
can find a way to join some cryonics organization. Your life is
important, no matter what you believe about homosexuality. Life is
more important than belief.
