X-Message-Number: 1689 Date: 28 Jan 93 23:57:23 EST From: Mike Darwin <> Subject: CRYONET Re: Pizer's inquiries about Saul To: INTERNET: Date: 26 January, 1993 I am deeply sorry if anything I said in my recent postings to Dave offended him in any way. This was certainly not my intention. And I certainly don't hate or dislike Dave. I consider Dave a friend. Good heavens! I have a very Christian attitude about such matters: I believe you should love the sinner and hate the sin. Dave's behavior is, of course, completely separable from Dave... However, I must admit that Dave *has* got me thinking. If we need to investigate the past history of "influential" Alcor members like Saul to make sure that they do Alcor no harm, well then it only makes sense that we investigate the backgrounds and pasts of the Alcor Board Members since their VOTE on critical issues gives them ever so much more power. I mean, Saul has no more or less tools at his disposal to influence the course of events than any other Alcor member. As far as I know he has not used coercion or threats of any kind, let alone actual physical force or fraud. So in other words, all Saul can do is use his record of past performance (i.e., personal credit) and his powers of verbal persuasion to influence the Board or Members and thus influence the course of events. These are essentially the same tools any other member has, including Dave Pizer. However, unlike Saul, Dave can vote and what's more he holds a position as Alcor's Treasurer -- a critical role with added responsibility (and we all know how important one vote can be, don't we?). Consequently, I think we should have a very careful investigation of all the Alcor Board Members. And since Dave was the one who pointed this grave deficiency out, I think it only fair that he be first. So, herewith, in the same spirit and hopefully in the same genteel way that Dave has been asking Saul questions I will now ask him a few questions: 1) I understand from previous conversations that you have been involved in many lawsuits as defendant in the course of your various business dealings. Could you please list these legal actions and disclose the outcome including any judgments against you. It would be especially helpful if you would give the case numbers and other information so that I can talk with the Plaintiffs. I ask this question because an individual's history of business litigation is directly relevant to their performance of their duties in the conduct of Alcor's business as a Director and Officer. 2) I understand that you were involved in an altercation with the police in a community where you lived that resulted in your arrest and your subsequent filing of a false arrest suit which you lost. Could you please provide information on how I can access the records of this case. I would also like your permission to obtain copies of the police report made out at the time you were arrested. 3) Are you in compliance with all laws, State and Federal in the operation of your various businesses? As you have stated many times, indictment, let alone conviction on any criminal or civil charge, would be a very serious matter for Alcor; reflecting very badly on Alcor and perhaps bringing other government agencies to bear on Alcor. I would particularly like information on your employees FICA and State withholding taxes, workers compensation, etc. 4) Are there any incidents or events in your personal business life which might call into question your good judgment or your ability to make sound judgments for Alcor? This is where your personal history of litigation and arrest, if any, will be particularly helpful. 5) Will you please provide a comprehensive history of your personal and professional life since circa 1968. A list of all business ventures, their disposition, any litigation associated with them, bankruptcies, etc., would be most helpful. 6) Have you ever used any name other than David Pizer? (This is a question you have asked Curtis Henderson about Saul, so I know you won't mind me asking it of you). 7) Please list any time you have served in any county jail, State or Federal Penitentiary. Hopefully these questions will help us all to determine your suitability to continue to serve on the Alcor Board or even to interact with other Alcor members. Of course, it must be pointed out that you are only the first, and that these questions represent only the beginning since once I have your detailed responses I will be in a better position to ask more relevant questions still. Dave, your generosity, decency, and insight in this matter astounds me. You have opened up a whole new world for me. Naturally we can't stop at Board Members or Influential Members. Why, any member might become influential at any time. Clearly it would be best if a very thorough background check was performed on everyone joining Alcor. Certainly this MUST be done on the OMNI Contest Winner since this individual will be very high profile with the media. Alcor must make very sure that this person in no way represents a threat. Not just a physical for the lucky winner, but thorough background check and a psychiatric exam too! In reflecting on all of this I must say that I'm glad I got out when I did. You know I'm just not sure a shot at immortality with Alcor is worth it. Leastwhile not as long as you're on the Board. Oh yes, I almost forgot! Since you are so interested in history I would suggest you make a trip to the public library and look up a fellow by the name of Robspierre. I believe that you and he will someday have much in common. Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=1689
