X-Message-Number: 17487 From: Date: Sun, 9 Sep 2001 09:27:17 EDT Subject: India, Swayze Gurvinda Bagga (#17484) expressed surprise that he may be the only one of almost a billion people in India to post to Cryonet. We (CI) occasionally receive inquiries from India, but so far no members. (We do have at least one U.S. member of India origin, and at least one of Chinese origin, and one Korean.) Since the people of Asia are bright and numerous, they will obviously become increasingly important, both in cryonics and in most other areas. (India is already an important resource in software.) The problems holding them back so far are probably mainly twofold: First, the weight of cultural tradition, worse there than here; secondly, the apparent priority of other issues such as bread-and-butter. As usual, identifying the problem is not the same as solving it, and I know of no new strategy to speed things up in Asia. Mr. Bagga also said he would try to help raise money for the James Swayze fund. He has our heartfelt thanks for this, with so many other responsibilities already weighing on him. There's an old saying: "If you want something done, ask a busy man."
