Subject: Every Dog Has His Week

I can t imagine someone of Bob Ettinger s sagacity was serious in
suggesting I should muzzle anyone (Cryonet Post 17521), Charles Platt or
otherwise. In this week of senseless assaults on our basic freedoms,
depriving a fellow citizen of his/her free speech is tantamount to ensuring
a capitulating acquiescence to the insidious forces we abhor. Do any of us
believe otherwise? I should not think so.
Alcor has repeatedly (and arguably appropriately) been cited in these
pages for its lack of balance in our limited and all-too-infrequent
publications. In my 34 item agenda I presented to the Alcor staff last
Monday morning, I stressed a fervent belief that we should take steps to
rectify this (I believe) legitimate charge. Accordingly, we are
resurrecting a monthly newsletter to offer a more timely exchange of
information and ideas amongst our organization, its members, and the
general public. To spearhead this project, I chose two seemingly disparate
individuals, each in his own way eager for the task. From inside Alcor,
Hugh Hixon got the nod. As the most technically capable staff member, our
facilities engineer will provide the requisite in-house knowledge for the
manuscript. From outside of Scottsdale, who better than professional
writer Charles Platt to stir the embers of diversity of thought?
Controversy, when tempered with mature contemplative wisdom, allows us all
to improve, and in our unique mission, extend our lives in meaningful
pursuit.
Another oft-leveled charge that our quarterly magazine is little more
than a cheerleading exercise is noted, and, at least by me, accepted
without significant apology. As one of our primary promotional tools
employed to attract more signups, I intend to keep it largely jingoistic.
Hence, the monthly newsletter, all the more reason to develop precisely in
the format I have detailed.
I have two beautiful golden retrievers at home, Hudson and Meagan.
Occasionally, they bother our neighbors with the vocal cords they were
given. I m letting them bark this week. I like the sound.
