X-Message-Number: 1759 Date: 17 Feb 93 03:31:24 EST From: STEPHEN BRIDGE <> Subject: CRYONICS mothers February 16, 1993 >From Steve Bridge, Alcor Reply to Charles Platt's message #1750 about cryonicists loving their mothers. Recently at Alcor, seven men (5 employees, 1 Member, and 1 "likely-to- sign-up") were discussing what we had in common that might point toward cryonics interest. One element was that all seven were the oldest child or only child in their family. The "likely-to-join" metioned that he had noticed that almost everyone he asked in active positions in cutting edge organizations were also eldest or only. There is a lot of sociological evidence that the oldest child in the family is most often a leader in many ways. Also, an only child or oldest child would have spent the most time alone with a mother, which might result in more closeness (on the average) in adulthood. The question of birth order might be an interesting addition to the next cryonics poll, although the field is too large to create a marketing focus (how do you send direct mail to or focus advertising on all of the eldest children in the country?).
