While in many ways Charles is correct and one must never go to a science fiction gathering expecting to receive overwhelming support for cryonics or anything else which requires doing instead of imagining ---- ConFrancisco may still be an excellent place to promote cryonics. Already there are 50 Alcor members in Northern California, plus most of the ACS members, and perhaps three times that many people with strong sympathies in the direction of cryonics in the computer/technology fields. Most of these people are SF readers and many other SF-technophiles will be attending. San Francisco is a different area for this market than other major SF conventions, I really believe. Angalee Shepherd, Richard Shock, and I hosted Alcor parties at the WorldCon in Chicago in 1991 and in Orlando in 1992. Chicago was more effective because more tech-oriented people were there and because there were more panels on nanotechnology and life extension to focus that crowd. Besides, it was fun and we met other Alcor members and prospective members. I think this could do a lot of good and provide a hangout for the fans who want to talk about the future and about technology instead of costumes, dragons, Klingons, and fandom as a way of life. I hope a lot of Alcor members show up. Steve Bridge Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=1768
