My father used to work at a Coca-Cola plant and said that the concrete under the taps on the syrup vats was ate away and that the workers did things like put nails in a bottle and the meat stunt too so I knew most of it was indeed true. As to the chronic dehydration, well we all are advised to drink 8 full glasses of water a day but how many people do you know that actually do? Not many I'd bet. People drink coffee and pop and fruit drinks instead thinking it substitutes for plain water. I doesn't. In fact those things likely make for a need to drink even more water to flush the extra junk they contain from one's system. It was reasonable to assume the piece was true enough. The steak may be disolved in our stomachs in two hours and the Coke is mild compared to that but we don't put stomach acid down our throats all that often either.
