There are some extremely clever people out there who can make all sorts of
sophisticated crop pictures, and a slightly randomised version of the
Arecibo intergalactic broadcast is an ideal subject for a hoax.

In science one has to consider explanations for an event in the order of
likelihood, and only dismiss the more likely explanations if they can be
refuted by factual anomalies.

Regretful though it may seem, a hoax is far more likely than an
intergalactic transmission sent using a crop field as a receiver.
