Subject: Question about duplicates

Why is it important?

I missed some of the discussion on duplicates, so I apologize if my
question has already been answered.

I understand that it is difficult to tell now whether you can duplicate
consciousness and awareness by making a copy of someone's brain. However,
as soon as we will be able to make such copies we will have the answer. I
assume that tests will first be conducted on dogs and primates, who do have
at least some degree of consciousness. Then they will be performed on
people who die in accidents, when such copying is a possible means of
revival (e.g., at the requests of their relatives).

It is only if and after such tests are successful, that cryonicists who
want that option are going to be subjected to copying. So what do we get by
speculating on it now?
