X-Message-Number: 18241 Date: Thu, 27 Dec 2001 14:52:56 -0800 From: Olaf Henny <> Subject: The reluctance of wives to accept cryonics References: <> I read with great interest of Henry Hirsch's and Will Dye's efforts in persuading their respective wives to accept cryonics. Here is my story: When I first got interested in cryonics about 6 years ago (and most of the time since) Margot resented my "macabre preoccupation with death and dying" and found it upsetting to even talk about it. Now she accepts the thought of my being preserved out of respect for my wishes. In a weak moment she even consented, that I could have her preserved, in case she died before me. Of course she was at the time not aware of the complex write-up procedures. Recently she even voiced repeatedly concern that if anything should happen to me, she would not know, what to do about having me preserved. So, when it came about, that she wanted a major concession from me, I proposed a deal, that I would go along with it, providing she would read a 50 page printout about cryonics. She was tickled pink about the deal and has now started to read the printouts of the home page and both FAQs (the one about cryonics and the one on how to become a member) of the Cryonics Institute. I hope, that by the time she is finished with that she will realise, that although death plays an interim role in all this, it is really a whole lot more about life. BTW, the part that Margot wanted in the deal never came about through circumstances beyond our control, but she is still sticking to her promise.
