  I read the paper on 4-phenylbutryate. The authors report upregulation of 
many genes, including the superoxide dismutase gene; reduction in oxidative 
damage could be the cause. Someone should feed some EUK-134 (a superoxide 
dismutase/catalase mimic) to fruit flies and see whether the result is 
similar.
