As you are forming opinions on various discussed issues such as how to raise income, control expenses, and plan for the future, pay particular attention to the following: * All the proposed budgets have about 1/3 the income coming from member dues. Another 25% is donations, and 15% are from suspensions (which means that members need to deanimate, and their suspensions need to be efficient.) I am concerned that only 1/3 of the income is coming from the backbone of our organization...us the members, and it is really the only reliable revenue source.I would be more comfortable with a dues structure that delivered 50% of our income. That would mean a substantial dues increase, but also buy us real progress on the road to extended life. Alcor management is reluctant to propose much of a dues increase, for fear it will be unpopular or difficult for many people to handle. I would like all of your comments on a staggered dues increase over the next five years starting with an immediate $5 a month . Succeding monthly dues increases each year then would be $4,3,2,1. This all totals $15.00 month additional dues eventually by the year 1998. With the current membership, that would be an accumulated additional revenue available for improved suspensions, readiness, and research of $225,000. If we achieve membership growth of even modest proportions, the additional income will be truly substantial. And so will the benefits. Some of you know me. I have been acting as the Membership ommbudsman, and active on behalf of all of us as chairman of the independent audit commitee ( I keep in contact with the managing partner of the certified public accounting firm we engaged and they tell me that all the major asset balances have been confirmed as correct and in place) and have performed some internal auditing procedures myself. I am ready and willing to start participating in an increased dues structure as outlined above. Are You? If so, please contact Steve Bridge . He is reachable by phone of course at Alcor or Compuserve (72320,1642). Michael Riskin, C.P.A., Ph.D. Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=1848
