"Humanity in general" is composed of 6 billion individuals, who widely
disagree with each other.  That is why I asked the question about WHO
would draw the line, and how it would be enforced upon dissenters.
I, personally, dissent from this goal.  I agree with you that getting
the hardware that we already have working properly is a higher priority,
but I also want to keep my options open if some enhancements that I
view as useful become available.

Judging by past history, some enhancements are also likely to become
available _before_ all of the repairs that we'd like to make become
possible.  Even today, consider that some cosmetic surgery is done,
yet there are vast numbers of higher priority capabilities that we'd
prefer from medicine - but the cosmetic surgery happens to be so much
easier than e.g. curing many cancers, that the cosmetic capabilities
arrived first.
