As it was taught at Virgil I. Grissom High School, the problem with the capsule

was the magnesium used throughout. If you have ever seen (indirectly of course)
what magnesium does when exposed to ignition temps in an oxygen CONTAINING 
environment (pure oxygen not require), you will realize what a flaw this was.

Pure and near pure oxygen atmospheres can be useful for some purposes, though I
don't see that it would be REQUIRED in this case.
