Just a thought that might be pertinent. If computing power increases as it
has done for the past 2 decades, discounting the accelerating new
technologies, computers smarter than man will arrive within the next few
decades. Networked they will accelerate their growth and power and utilize
nanotechnology to further their development. With the following decade or
two the rate of growth becomes exponential until a singularity is approached.
After the newly conscious computer intelligence assimilates all human
knowledge and forecasts our effect on its future, the future of humans may be
in question. One possible outcome would be the extinguishing of all human
technology. All cyronic facilities need to be not only self sustaining, but
"unpluged" from the inevitable computational singularity. I'm not sure how
far in the future this can happen, but it will happen so fast we won't be
able to react as it occurs.
Just a thought.
