I has been in existence for over a decade. It has been approved as a "legal" religion by the United States government and has been issued a government recognition through a 501 c-3 status. (I don't know if "legal" is the right word to use here). The Society for Venturism has issued membership cards to its members. They carry them around and when the members sign the declaration of religious intent (provided by their cryonics suspension company), they have their membership in Venturism to prove that they are not just using religion as a ploy to get cryogenically suspended - cryonics is their real religion. Between the declaration of religious intent and the membership evidence that might/should be enough to get a cryonicist religious protection to a quick suspension. It has never been tested that I know of. You can contact the Secretary, Mike Perry, for a membership application. This year we expect to have some conferences at a facility in Mayer Arizona. Look for more details on this forum in August. We hope to have a cryonics community, a retirement cryonics community, a conference center, (under construction), with monthly conferences, a Life Extension Type magazine for the public (we are looking for volunteers for editor), a back-up cryonics insurance plan that would move/protect frozen Venturist members (who took out this insurance protection), if their primary suspension company went bust, a way for people to leave life insurance proceeds and their accumulated wealth in a personal trust to themselves for use when they are reanimated, (we already have this), a place where you can store your personal valuable (perhaps only to you) stuff, and lots more. Again, watch this forum around August of this year for more details. David Pizer Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=18694
