Here I describe what must be the magneto-hydrodynamics generator for the big
metal vapor laser. This is a reference message for comming progress
repports.

The MHD principle is quite simple: send high speed plasma in a perpendicular
magnetic field and you get in the third dimension an electrical field readily
collected by two graphite electrodes. In the so called open cycle, the plasma
generator is a rocket motor supplemented with some alcaline metal, calcium,
sodium,... Compact, tremendous power can be extracted from the device for a
short duration.

Four V2/A4 motors would produce 1200 MW at thermal level, half of that could
be extracted in electric form by the MHD device. With the so called pintle
injector, liquid burners scale up readilly. The V2 motor was the assembly of
19 smaller preburners, a similar preburner is under making in the amateur
world today. The current project is to mass produce it, so it could be
readilly at hand on a buy or swap basis. The MHD project is then to build by
pressure cold forming a common chamber-nozzle with water cooling jacket and
put at the outside an electro-magnet and two graphite electrodes. All of that
seems a definitive possibility at "amateur cost".

The primary energy source of the 120 MW brain reader laser seems to be a
workable project.

Yvan Bozzonetti.
