X-Message-Number: 19273 From: "George Smith" <> References: <> Subject: What I mean. Date: Thu, 13 Jun 2002 09:58:59 -0700 In answer to the accusations that I am "talking crap" and "giving Americans a bad name" in Message 19264 by Philip Rhoades, all I can say is I do not identify with any race, religion or nation. Clearly Philip does. I am an Immortalist. Right or wrong, I expect to OUTLIVE all current religions and nations, and, due to genetic controls, even all current forms of the human species to include all current races. I also expect to outlive all current forms of propaganda masquerading as "real science". I do NOT claim to know who is "right" but I do see BIG HOLES in the claims of those who say they have a handle on the ultimate answers today. It's fairly easy to see when some people are clearly wrong in their beliefs when facts contradict their assumptions. I will give you just one simple example anyone on the planet can see. Why are the overwhelming majority of "impact craters" on the moon circular? If these craters were caused by impacts, why are almost 100% of them strictly circular? Does every rock of any size striking the moon suddenly veer to the vertical to create a circular crater? Or is there an entirely different explanation for the evidence anyone can clearly see? I use this simple example as just another anomaly which is clearly visible and yet ignored. If impacts are NOT primarily responsible for the battered surface of the moon (and Earth, and Mars, and many other planets and moons), what IS? THAT would be the question to ask and seek an answer for, I should imagine. It is this unwillingness to look at the evidence and ask such questions that troubles me about the direction of the dogmatic "sciences" today. The questions asked and the answers found must FIT or they are excommunicated. As demonstrated by any careful reading of history, I expect the truly meaningful breakthroughs will have to come from outside the current cloistered dogma-bound groups. I am optimistic they WILL happen, I just doubt they will come from people who are (to quote Indiana Jones in "Raiders of the Lost Ark") "digging in the wrong place!" In Message #19269 Ron Havelock wrote "I repeat, doomsday stuff is bad for cryonics." I have to agree although I really don't know of any meaningful way to "fight" it. If people think they are doomed anyway, why try to take a shot on the future ... which is "doomed" anyway? You can't "fight" human belief systems. You can only wait until the weight of their error eventually cause them to collapse and be replaced by new and simpler theories which take into account more of the evidence instead of ignoring it. "Science progresses funeral by funeral." ( I forget who coined the quote. They are probably dead and buried anyway). I sincerely doubt that anyone reading this will consider my words enough to look at the evidence and change their opinion. I just thought I should explain that I really DON'T believe that my opinion makes ANY measurable difference. Neither does YOURS. Neither does ANYONE's. If the planet is doomed, that's it. It is doomed. If it isn't, it isn't. I will assume it isn't and gamble on the future. What will YOU do? Try to change the beliefs of other people? If so, good luck! Just my opinion, George Smith CI member and Immortalist Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=19273
