Subject: Data Recovery Advice Sought

I have a problem that, in a small way, parallels what we are up against
with resuscitation from cryonic suspension: a crashed hard drive that has
some data I really want to recover. (A significant part of this data
relates to cryonics in one way or another.) The problem seems to be
physical damage to the platters of the hard drive, and it would be helped
(I think) if there were a way to recover the data of one platter
independently of another. Apparently this is very difficult, says my data
recovery service, who are at the point of giving up with nothing to show.
Perhaps some computer-literate person can suggest something. Any advice is
greatly appreciated, private email may be appropriate.
