X-Message-Number: 2017 Subject: CRYONICS - Cryonics Reorganization From: (Edgar W. Swank) Date: Wed, 24 Mar 93 04:55:25 PST I'd like to offer my comments on CRYOMSG 1996 by Paul Wakfer. First, I share Paul's frustration with ALCOR. I posted CRYOMSG 1847, which suggested that ALCOR could solve some of its funding problem by unbundling its services and offering them at a profit to other cryonics organizations, on Feb 26. I haven't seen a -single- comment, either positive or negative, posted by an ALCOR member or officer. I'm glad to see that Paul (and Mike?) share my and ACS's views on the structure of cryonics organizations. This is why ACS and Trans- Time were initially set up as separate organizations. Certainly ACS is eager to get full information on Bio-Preservation and its services. We're especially interested in services for neuro AIDS patients. At the same time, I need to correct some minor errors. Paul said: With respect to TransTime, from what I hear once into their patient care you can never get out. Currently the Cryonics Institute appears best for providing the patient care for any new cryonics company's clients). I don't know where Paul got that idea about Trans Time. Perhaps Art could comment if he reads this. This could be true for people who contract directly with Trans Time for "indefinite" storage. It's certainly not true of ACS members stored at TT. Trans Time is paid by ACS annually for patient storage. At least one ACS member has already been transferred from Trans-Time to CI. On the other hand, at present CI -only- contracts for single-payment "indefinite" storage. The ACS/CI contract allows ACS to remove patients from CI, but there is -no- refund. Also, at present, CI does not store neuro patients. Some of us have speculated that, if asked, they -might- accept neuro patients on the same terms as whole-body. In any case, another storage facility would be good news. I hope the report re the Comos family pans out. There have also been reports that ACS member Trygve Bauge is planning to build a cryonics facility in Colorado. -- (Edgar W.
